For many of our members, huts are at the heart of their connection to the club. But did you know that huts are also the key economic driver for the ACC? The economic input from our huts allows us to then support other funds and initiatives. By donating to the auction you will help us make our huts more sustainable and long-lasting for continued use in the future so that the ACC can continue to support the alpine community.

Simon Parboosingh Assistance Fund

The Simon Parboosingh Assistance Fund exists to provide ACMG members, staff, and volunteers with a source of emergency funding in the event of a personal crisis. Many ACMG members work independently and do not have access to the same benefits as employees.

History
Simon Parboosingh was a guide candidate participating on an assistant alpine guide exam when he was killed in an avalanche accident on Mt. Athabasca, in 1994. The Simon Parboosingh Assistance Fund was created in 1996 and has been supporting ACMG members through donations in his name ever since.

ACC Sustainable Energy Projects

This project aims to incorporate many technologies intended to reduce the overall carbon footprint of each hut, and increase huts’ longevity. These technologies include construction materials with insulated panels, solar power, wind power, and an electrical system that can be remotely monitored from the ACC’s office in Canmore.

The ACC’s huts also allow for the introduction of new, more environmentally-responsible energy and waste management systems, as new technology becomes available. Ongoing research being conducted by the ACC and government land managers is examining other options including remote wind-power and micro-hydro systems, as well as methods for reducing the mass of black water residues that need to be removed by helicopter.
