Alpine Legacy Circle

Your ACC Journey Continues Here

For more than 120 years, The Alpine Club of Canada has been shaped by people who care deeply about the mountains and the community built around them.

From the first huts constructed by volunteers to the leadership programs that continue today, the ACC exists because generations of members believed that Canada’s alpine landscapes are worth exploring and protecting.

For many supporters, a legacy gift is a meaningful way to give back to a community that has shaped their lives.

These accomplishments were not built overnight.

They were built by members—one generation at a time.

What Is the Alpine Legacy Circle?

The Alpine Legacy Circle recognizes members and supporters who choose to include the ACC in their estate plans. Some share their intentions during their lifetime; others are honoured in tribute after their passing. All are united by a shared commitment to the future of Canada’s alpine landscapes and the community built around them.

Recognition is always guided by the wishes of each donor and their family.

What is a Planned Gift?

A planned gift is a charitable gift that is arranged today and fulfilled in the future, often through a will or estate plan.

Planned gifts can take many forms, including gifts in a will, beneficiary designations on retirement plans or life insurance policies, or other arrangements made with the guidance of a financial or legal advisor.

“The Alpine Club of Canada was a cornerstone in my aunt Jean’s life. Her nearly eighty-year connection to the club speaks volumes about the joy and meaning it brought her. “

— Carolyn Mungall, niece of Jean Mary Molson, Alpine Legacy Circle Member

Leading the Way

Many of The Alpine Club of Canada’s most enduring contributions have come from members who chose to support the club beyond their lifetimes. Meet a few of the individuals whose connection to the alpine community inspired them to leave a legacy with The Alpine Club of Canada.

A Life Lived Outdoors: Remembering Arthur “Bud” Hall

Bud Hall loved being in wild places in the way that some people love breathing. It was simply part of who he was.

Arthur George “Bud” Hall was born in Calgary on October 26, 1926, into a family that were true pioneers of Western Canada. He passed away at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy gift to The Alpine Club of Canada that continues to shape the Canadian backcountry in ways he never requested credit for.

A Life Lived Vertically: The Legacy of Wally Joyce

Wallace (Wally) Richard Joyce was born in Cranbrook, BC in 1915, and by the time his family moved to Calgary he was already making pilgrimages to Banff and Waterton with his Boy Scout troop, a young boy with a Kodak camera and an unquenchable sense of wonder. He would carry both the camera and the wonder for the next nine decades.

“This is my mountain benediction for all who are awe‑struck by the mountains: ‘If you’re lucky enough to be in the mountains, you’re lucky enough!’ … I consider it a privilege and a personal calling to help the ACC in promoting responsible, sustainable access to wild mountain places. After all, I don’t want the luck to end with me!”

— Mary Sanseverino, Alpine Legacy Circle member

“We know that our perpetual‑annual gift will make a positive impact to improve and maintain the natural environment within Yoho National Park, Elizabeth Parker Hut and the ACC—helping create a positive experience for every guest fortunate enough to visit.”

— Lawrence Lee and Nicholas Pavelich, Alpine Legacy Circle members
