SECOND PLACE
This Year's Selected Winners
Thank you to everyone who entered this competition. There were so many brilliant entries, which made choosing our winners a tough choice. It’s worth noting that judging photography, like any art form, is subjective, and we tried to set aside our biases. Judging was based on criteria such as photo composition, originality, and how well the submission reflects the spirit of the ACC and the GMC. All of the rules can be referred to here. We hope you had fun snapping your photos – it was certainly fun to experience the GMC through your lenses!
1st Place: Escarpment Epic Scale by Deanna Fontaine
“Escarpment glacier was a sight to behold! Wow, just wow! It has a vast snow patch and huge crevasses that are stunning! I could not get enough of watching the group as they descended.”
Deanna’s photo shows us the scale of the surroundings and where we stand in the midst of the mountains. It’s a beautifully captured image and was at the top of the list for all of our judges! While the stunning light, shadow and textures take your breath away, the composition makes it a work of art and the winding trail of mountaineers draw the eye through the picture.
2nd Place: Into the Light by Christine Wushke
“Mike leaving the ice cave and heading toward the rest of the group, who are resting outside the cave having a snack. I love the contrast between the deep shadows of the cave and the bright alpine landscape outside.”
A few lucky GMC’ers were able to discover the ice cave! Not only is it a stunning feature to climb on, but it’s also a wonder to behold and capture. Christine’s photo is well-exposed and well-composed, and gives us all the beautiful textures!
3rd Place: Fly-By on a Snowy July Morning by Marie-Christine Claveau
What a shot! Uncommon weather events take us for a spin but create some pretty dramatic scenes. The pairing of this scene with the glow of sunrise and a special little bird makes for a fleeting capture that is somewhat analogous to the GMC experience as a whole—well done!
Each year our GMC finds a new home in a remote, exciting part of western Canada’s mountains. For 2027, we are excited to announce that the camp will be visiting the unique and beautiful alpine wilderness surrounding Moby Dick in the Melville Group in the South Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia.
Set at 2050 metres, the camp opens the door to a rugged world of glaciers, steep snow slopes, and impressive peaks. This remote setting is a true playground for intrepid explorers – offering opportunities for glacier travel, technical climbs, and alpine adventure.
