Trip Description

Experience one of the most popular destinations in the Canadian Rockies. Based at the Elizabeth Parker Hut, you’ll explore an extensive, well-maintained trail network connecting 25 lakes throughout Yoho Valley, from old-growth forests to alpine viewpoints.

This adventure is designed for all hiking levels. No previous experience required, but participants should be prepared to walk 4-9 hours daily with a light day pack on sometimes rocky, uneven terrain. More challenging hikes are available, but optional.

Your adventure includes 4 days with certified ACMG hiking guides at a maximum 8:1 ratio, 3 nights’ accommodation at the Elizabeth Parker Hut, and all necessary group gear. Itinerary

Your adventure begins at the Lake O’Hara bus parking lot near Lake Louise, where you’ll meet your group and take the 8:30am bus into this pristine wilderness. After settling at the Elizabeth Parker Hut, days will be dedicated to exploring the region’s exceptional trail network. Your certified guides know all the prime viewpoints and hidden gems, focusing on classic routes like Odaray Grandview, Lake Oesa, Lake McArthur, and Opabin Plateau. Early mornings offer the most spectacular mountain vistas, while afternoons provide opportunities to discover new trails or revisit favorites. On the final day, there’s time for one last memorable hike before catching the 4:30pm bus back to the parking lot, concluding your Lake O’Hara experience.
Day 1
Meet your group at the Lake O’Hara bus parking lot (just past Lake Louise) and take the 8:30am bus into Lake O’Hara. Unload at the hut.
Days 2, 3, 4 (general itinerary)
Get up early to enjoy the best views on one of the many trails from the hut
Day 5
Opportunity to do one last hike before packing up and catching the 1630 pm bus back to the parking lot.

Lake O’Hara is a high-alpine lake with a surrounding trail network situated in Yoho National Park, British Columbia. It’s located on the western side of the Great Continental Divide and sits at an elevation of 2,020 meters. The Lake O’Hara area is home to a number of pristine alpine lakes, meticulously kept hiking trails, high-alpine circuits, and is also where Elizabeth Parker Hut is located.

Our guiding ratio will be a maximum of 8:1. All guides are Association of Canadian Mountain Guide (ACMG) certified Hiking Guides.

Adventure Hazards

Terrain

Risks include but are not limited to: ​Cornices and crevasses. Trees, tree wells, and tree stumps. Cliffs, creeks,  rocks and boulders. Holes and depressions below the snow surface. Variable and difficult snow conditions. Snowcat roads and road ranks. Fences and other man-made structures. Impact or collision with other persons, vehicles or objects. Encounters with domestic or wild animals. Loss of balance or control. Becoming lost or separated from the group. Slips, trips, and falls. 

General Hazards

Risks include but are not limited to:Slips trips and falls indoor or outdoor. Equipment failure. Infectious disease contracted through viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi which may be transmitted through direct or indirect contact. Negligence of other persons, including other guests. Negligent first aid. Negligence of the guide Including failure to take reasonable steps to safeguard or protect you from, or warn you of risk, dangers, hazards, on participating in ACC activities

Communication and Rescue

Risks include but are not limited to:Communication can be difficult and in the event of an accident, rescue and treatment may not be available. Adverse weather may also delay the arrival of treatment and transport out of the field. If an Injury occurs in challenging terrain movement to an evacuation point may be slow.
