The Big Trident Giveaway explained

What’s the GMC?

The General Mountaineering Camp is the ACC’s signature summer mountaineering adventure where we set up a remote, catered camp in the mountains and invite our members to stay for a week of mountaineering and fun. In 2026, the camp will be located in the Trident Group in the wild Northern Selkirk mountains of BC.

You can see more details about the 2026 Trident GMC here.

The GMC is a beginner-friendly chance to climb mountains, travel on glaciers, summit peaks, and hang out with great people. It’s professionally guided and open to all abilities. At camp, you get to decide which of the daily outings you want to attend, based on your skills and what you feel like doing that day. We fly into our basecamp by helicopter. We swim in freezing cold glacial tarns. We eat great big meals together in a great big tent and have some silly time in the evenings. We take pictures of pretty alpine flowers, stargaze, and hike to waterfalls and alpine meadows with canvases and paints. It’s remote, it’s adventurous, and it’s an epic good time.

What’s The Big Trident Giveaway?

The Big Trident Giveaway is a contest open to all Canadians who are keen to explore our mountains. One lucky winner will receive:

  • A week at the 2026 GMC for yourself and a friend, including all the extras like private sleeping tents and shuttle to the helicopter staging area. Our staff will be available to help you with planning your week and make sure you’re comfortable with everything from transportation to dietary requirements to your footwear and gear.
  • A full gear package for two people from Mountain Hardwear including (2x) down sleeping bag, climbing pack, duffel bag, soft shell pants, waterproof shell jacket, wind shell, insulated mid-layer, and sun hoody. Nice.
  • $1,500 MEC cash for anything else you might need.

How to enter

Enter with your name and email address in the form above – that’s it. You’ll receive mailings from the contest partners The Alpine Club of Canada, Mountain Hardwear, and Mountain Equipment Company (and no one else).

The GMC experience

“Time spent in the mountains will not be deducted from your life.”

Our basecamp

Each year the GMC basecamp is set up in a different remote area of western Canada’s mountains. The sites are chosen for their access to peaks and glaciers, as well as the scenery and remoteness. Participants are flown into camp by helicopter.

Food

Days in the mountains are fueled by food—and lots of it! Our camp is staffed with a team of chefs who prepare hearty and fresh meals daily. Hot breakfast, fresh baked goodies, big lunches, and awesome dinners. Yum!

Glaciers and peaks

The primary purpose of the GMC – true in 1906 and true today – is to introduce Canadians to their mountains.

Skills

The GMC is for everyone, whether you’re an old hand or you’re putting on a harness for the first time; whether you’re climbing your first summit or your 100th.

Guiding

All outings from our basecamp are supervised and led by ACMG-certified mountain guides. Each day you will have your choice of hiking, glacier travel, and mountaineering outings. Specific days include optional snow skills and rock skills instruction.

Beautiful scenery

Mountains and glaciers are beautiful everywhere, but there’s something special about being able to experience wild and remote places where so few people have ever travelled.

Art and relaxation

Not every day has to include a summit. Painting the scenery, lying in a meadow, and swimming in mountain lakes are just as important as climbing.

Happy people

It’s easy to be psyched and happy when the only thing you have to do in a day is be in the mountains with other psyched and happy people.

ACC Gazette Section Stories: Prince George

Winter is a time when the world becomes a playground, covered entirely in soft white powder to play in. At least that’s what it should be, but Prince George’s early spring this year, with rain in January, was pathetic. But we in PG are lucky to have nearby mountains to escape to.
