International Ski Mountaineering Competition Results

It is our hope that from coast to coast to coast the acronym "CEC" will be used by all competition climbing stakeholders to refer to their parent organizing body. The first "C" stands for "Competition", the "E" stands for "Escalade" (the French word for climbing) and the second "C" stands for Canada.

The CEC is the governing body for competition climbing in Canada and is now a full, non-geographic Section of The Alpine Club of Canada (ACC). The CEC is supported by the ACC and is run by volunteers from across the country.

The CEC comprises the Open and Youth Divisions for International-format competition climbing and is the only sanctioning body for Canada recognized by the International Federation for Sport Climbing (IFSC). As the member National Federation for the country, the CEC and the Alpine Club of Canada are solely responsible for maintaining a national ranking for competition climbers, selecting, training, and licensing a Canadian National Climbing Team, and registering them for International competitions. Competitive membership in the CEC is required when representing Canada at IFSC sanctioned International events.

The CEC encourages and sanctions competitions across Canada. The CEC provides competition information and application packages to individuals or organizations who would like to hold a sanctioned competition. It reviews these applications and provides "sanctioning" for competition on the local, regional and national levels, placing them on an events calendar and publicizing them among its members. The CEC ensures that these sanctioned events are run safely, fairly, equitably, consistently and according to the CEC Rules and Regulations. The CEC ranks climbing athletes on the basis of their performance in sanctioned competitions and chooses teams for international competition based on those rankings.

Membership

Membership is available in either the Open or Youth division of the CEC. Membership information can be found at on the CEC website.

Upcoming Events

The CEC is proud to announce the 2009 Open Bouldering Team. These athlete’s have participated in numerous CEC sanctioned competitions over the past year and have proven that they are indeed the top Adult Bouldering competition climbers in Canada. Thanks to the Tour De Bloc and all of the climbing gyms who have devoted so much of their energies in making this year’s competition circuit such a success. Many of these athletes will be competing at the World Cup in Vail, Colorado during the Teva Mountain Games from June 4 - 7, 2009.
